Albert Frederick “Fred” Ranney, 69, of West Pleasant Street in Claremont, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

He was born in Springfield, VT on September 6, 1938 the son of Albert D. and Josephine (Rumke) Ranney and had resided in Claremont since 1974.  He was raised in Springfield, VT and originally lived at 3 Hoover Street.

He graduated from Springfield High School in 1956 and from Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA in 1958 with an electrical engineering degree.

He served in the US Army for three years during the Berlin Crisis and was discharged in 1963.

Fred was employed at Dartmouth College for five years, at Jones & Lamson in Springfield, VT for more than thirty years and at Precision Valley Communication Corp. in N. Springfield for six years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church.  Fred kept track of the weather and collected data each day.  He enjoyed nature – all living creatures and plants and flowers.  He enjoyed traveling and trips to the ocean.  He liked working on cars, Italian Fiats were his particular enjoyment.  Fred was active in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) for many years.  Most of all he loved his cats.

The surviving family includes his wife, Brenda (Dagenais) Ranney whom he married May 25, 1974; one brother, Terrance “Terry” Ranney and his wife Joanne of Richmond, VT; mother-in-law, Elizabeth C. Dagenais of Claremont; one aunt, Harriet R. Tetzlaff of Burlington, VT; sister-in-law, Kathryn D. Alexander of Irvine, CA; brothers-in-law, Brian F. Dagenais and his wife Carol of Lee, NH, John M. Dagenais and Keith A. Dagenais both of Claremont; nephews, Jonathan Ranney and his wife Kathy of South Royalton, VT, Steven and Matthew Parsi of Irvine, CA and George T. Dagenais of Concord, NH and several cousins.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 1st at Twelve Noon at the Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Winn Alley, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating.  Interment will be Monday at Eleven O’clock in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
