Alfred C. Hinton, 86, of Bonmark Drive in Claremont, died Thursday morning,
January 3, 2008 at the Sullivan County Health Care.

He was born in Lyndonville, VT on March 31, 1921 the son of Leon and Belle
(Smith) Hinton.  He was nearly a lifelong resident of Newport, VT and had
resided in Claremont on Pleasant Valley Estates for five years and on
Bonmark Drive since Oct. of 2007.

Mr. Hinton was a graduate of the University of Vermont and was a veteran of
World War II having been a Pearl Harbor Survivor.

He retired in 1986 from the US Postal Service in Newport, VT where he worked
as a custodian for twenty-five years and had previously worked as the Plant
Manager for H.P. Hood Co. and had been self employed in the refrigeration
business.

Mr. Hinton was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV and the Pearl
Harbor Survivors Association.

The surviving family includes his wife, Rosemary D. Hinton of Claremont whom
he married on March 25, 1978; Children, Linda Ginsburg of Somerset, MA, Lora
Chesney of Newport, VT, Steven Seid of Benson, PA, Michael Palmer of Wilton,
ME, Mary Burnham of Rumford, ME and  Daniel Decker of Claremont;
Grandchildren, Louis, Allyson, Audrey Ginsburg, Nathan & Jennifer Chesney,
David & Steven Severy, Tara, Katy and Charles Palmer and Justin & Johanna
Decker;  nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters,
Gertrude Brown of Rutland, VT, Annie Hinton of Newport, VT; brother, James
Hinton of Island Pond, VT and several nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law
Stella Bull of Canandaqua, NY.  He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Alice
M.  Hinton; and infant son, Andrew James Hinton; daughters, Carol Severy and
Deborah Savage and brothers, Henry and Ernest Hinton and Sister Emily Lafoe.

A memorial service will be held in Newport, VT in the spring with interment
with military honors to be held at Hillside Cemetery in East Charleston, VT.
