Arthur Joseph Jellie, 88, of Main Street in Charlestown, NH, died Sunday morning, October 5, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born October 17, 1919 in Ogdensburg, NY the son of Capt. Philip N. and Mary Tyo (Taillon) (Joly, French spelling) Jellie.

He was a graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy in Ogdensburg, NY.

Mr. Jellie had a 45 year career in retail management and worked for JJ Newbury Co and FW Woolworth’s.  He was manager of Britt’s Department Store in Springfield, VT for 17 years. 

He enjoyed fishing and boating on the St. Lawrence River in upstate NY, and reading historical books.  But most of all he will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and love of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was the widower of Dorothy (Tuttle) Jellie of Gloversville, NY whom he married on Aug. 5,1952 and she died in 1988.

Mr. Jellie is survived by six children: Philip Jellie and his wife Barbara of Manchester, Mary LaPalme; Andrew Jellie and his wife Betty, David Jellie and his wife Gail, Christine Perkins, Stephen Jellie and his wife Peggy all of Charlestown; 14 grandchildren: Benjamin Little, Samuel Little, Joshua Wakefield, Tara Anderson, Peter Jellie, Catherine Jellie, Joseph Jellie, Michael Jellie, Emily Jellie, Aaron Perkins, Bethany Perkins, Brandon Perkins, Melissa Jellie and Trey Jellie; two great-grandchildren: Gabriel Little and Olivia Harris-Wakefield; also one brother, John Joly and his wife Nancy of Ogdensburg, NY and one sister-in-law Grace Joly of Chicago.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Rev. Msgr. Paul Joly and Dr. Ralph Joly; two sisters, Phyllis Jellie and Bernadette Jellie; a son-in-law Donald LaPalme and a grandson Devin Perkins.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning, October 9th at Eleven O’clock in St Catherine of Siena Church on Main Street in Charlestown with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, officiating.

Interment will follow in St Catherine of Siena Cemetery.
