Barbara Phyllis Jones died of cancer at home on Wednesday, June 4, 2008.

She was born in Malden, MA on June 25, 1920 the daughter of Peter and Mildred (Somes) Meister. She was a long-time resident of Stoneham, MA prior to moving to Claremont, NH in 1997.

She became a lab technologist and supervised the laboratory at New England Sanitarium and Hospital before going to the College of Medical Evangelists (Loma Linda University) for her MD. She interned one year at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket, before setting up private practice in Stoneham. She continued her career as a staff physician at Walter E. Fernald State School in  Waltham, MA and retired in 1980.

She was the widow of Orville Jones.

She leaves a daughter Patricia Jones and son Peter Jones of Claremont, NH. She was the third of six girls: Dorothy Barr of Simi Valley, CA; Miriam Roy of Melrose, MA; Grace Fairchild of Saugus, MA; Ruby Djang of La Cresenta, CA and predeceased by Maybelle Diamond.

She also leaves a large, extended family.

A long-time member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, she served in many capacities. She is remembered for her devotion to God and family and genuine concern for others demonstrated throughout her life.

Barbara eagerly anticipated the second coming of Jesus. Now she sleeps, waiting to see Jesus and be reunited with family and friends at the resurrection.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Graveside committal services will be held Tuesday at Ten  O’clock at the Seventh-day Adventist Church Cemetery in Washington, NH with Pastor Shawn Brace, officiating.
