Charles Addison Day, Sr., 86, of Salt Shed Road in Charlestown, died at his home on Tuesday afternoon, December 16, 2008.

He was born in Worcester, VT on August 10, 1922 the son of Ira and Beulah (Moore) Day and had resided in Charlestown for the past 57 years.

Charles worked in the Bellows Falls Creamery for 27 years and retired September 1, 1984 from Hubbard Hatchery in Walpole where he worked for 17 years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to work with his hands which showed much pride in whatever he made.

The surviving family includes his wife, Virginia (LaRue) Day of Charlestown whom he married on March 6, 1948 and they celebrated their 60th anniversary this year; two sons, Edward Day of Unity and Charles Day, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; two daughters, Dolores “Dee” Simonds of Bellows Falls, VT and Debra Illingworth of Hudson, FL; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Basil Day of Barre, VT and nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by one brother, Ira Day, Jr. in 1977 and a sister, Erma Whitaker in 2007.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 20th at Two O’clock at his home on Salt Shed Road in Charlestown, with Rev. Steven Fuller, Rector of the Immanuel Episcopal Church in Bellows Falls, VT, officiating.
