David E. Murchie, 73, of Laurel Street in Newport, died Saturday afternoon, June 28, 2008 at the New London Hospital.

He was born in Orange, MA on December 29, 1934 the son of Herbert J. and Dora Laura (Duval) Murchie and had resided in Newport for 40 years.

After high school he attended one year at St Michael’s College and one year at the University of California at Redlands.

David retired from Clarke Distributors of Keene where he worked for forty years as a sales representative and was known as the “Budweiser Man”.

He later worked for the State of New Hampshire Liquor Store and lastly at Salt Hill Pub for the past years as a host.

He was a member of the Lions Club, the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #15 and the Shriners Bektash Temple Oriental Band.

The surviving family includes his wife, Sandra C. (Jefts) Murchie of Newport whom he married on December 31, 1960; two sons, Daniel David Murchie of Salt Lake City, UT and Michael Sean Murchie of Carlisle, PA; five grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Roger Murchie of Boca Raton, FL; one aunt, Lillian Dunn of Orange, MA and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.

Members of Mt Vernon Masonic Lodge #15 are asked to meet at the Funeral Home on Tuesday evening at seven O’clock for services.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday morning, July 2nd at Eleven O’clock at the Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Winn Alley, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Claremont, officiating.

Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport.

The family suggests that donations may be made in his memory to the Shiners Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
