Dorothy J. Porter, 76, of Main Street in Enfield, NH, died at her home
Monday morning, February 25, 2008 from complications of Choroidal Melanoma.

She was born February 15, 1932 in Claremont, NH, the daughter of Charles B.
and Eva A. (Rainey) Saunders, Sr.   She graduated from Stevens High School
in 1949.

She was married to Richmond "Dick" Porter in January 1962 and had resided in
Enfield, NH since 1977.

Mrs. Porter was employed in the insurance business for 27 years, working for
the Royal Liverpool Group and Keating Insurance Agency in Claremont, the New
Hampshire Insurance Co. in New Haven, Ct., Kagan & Shawcross Insurance
Agency in Providence, RI, Henry Insurance Agency and Finn & Stone Inc. in
Chester, VT.  She was employed at Houghton Mifflin Co., Lebanon, NH from
1977 through 1989, and retired in 1997 after working at Dick's House at
Dartmouth College.

Survivors include her brother, Charles B. Saunders, Jr. and his wife, Brenda
of Claremont; Charles's daughters, Phyllis Gagnon and her husband, Raymond
of Claremont, Paula Simonds and Charles Cross of Sebago, ME, Christine
Record and her husband, Robert of Contoocook, NH; her beloved great niece,
Elyse Gagnon of Claremont as well as other great nephews and their children.


She was pre-deceased by her husband on December 6, 2006.

Mrs. Porter loved animals especially horses, dogs and cats, most recently
her dog D-D, and cats, Skipper, Smokey and Cutie.  Before moving to Enfield,
she and her husband operated a farm in No. Springfield, VT, raising polled
Hereford beef cattle, as well as caring for their horses.  She enjoyed the
outdoors, working in her vegetable garden, fishing, and their seasonal home
of 32 years in the White Mountains.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, March 1st at Eleven O'clock
in the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street with Rev. Father Stanley J.
Piwowar, Pastor of St Joseph Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 to 11
O'clock prior to the services.
