Duane Divoll Allen, Jr., 78, of Burr Road in Cornish, NH, died Tuesday morning, August 19, 2008 at his home after losing his battle with cancer.

He was born in Springfield, VT on June 10, 1930 the son of Duane Divoll and Clarissa (Converse) Allen, grew up in N. Springfield and had resided in Cornish since 1958.

He was a graduate of Springfield High School in the Class of 1948 and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Army.

Mr. Allen worked as a machinist at Bryant Grinder Corporation in Springfield, VT for nearly fifteen years, for Rachel Tenney Chicken Farm on the River Road in West Claremont for several years. He moved to Cornish in 1958 where he took up his love of dairy farming when he purchased the Lockwood Farm on Burr Road where he remained until his death.

He was a former 4-H leader, Cornish Fair Director where he headed up the vegetable and forage departments. He also was a volunteer in the Cornish Fire Department from 1963 serving as Chief from 1973 to 1982.  He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1201, a member of the Farm Bureau and the American Legion Post #25 of Windsor, VT.

He married his first wife, Evelyn R. (Smith) Allen on June 3, 1950 and she died Sept. 2, 1995.

The surviving family includes his second wife, Marie Jeanne (Larocque) Perron Allen whom he married March of 1996; one daughter, Linda R. Rice and her husband, Bob;  one granddaughter, Cara Decato and her husband Tom; one very special great-granddaughter, Rebecca Rumrill all of Cornish; six stepchildren; Roger Perron and his wife, Linda, Gerard Perron, Lisa Russell and her husband, Randy all of Claremont, Norman Perron and his wife Terry Lord of FL, Muriel Strout and her husband, Skip of FL and Susan Hill and her husband, Gary of NC and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by an infant son, Michael Allen; four brothers, Dennis Allen, Albert Allen, Claude Allen and Harley Allen and two sisters, Lillian Hill and Ester Lord.

There are no visiting hours.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30th at the Engine 2 Fire Station in Cornish Flat at 12:30 P.M. with Pastor Scott Kearns, officiating.

Interment will follow in Edminster Cemetery.
