Eleanor E. Beaton of 13 Bible Hill Road died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 5, 2008.

She was born in Enfield, NH on November 7, 1921 the daughter of Jesse Sweatt and Mabel (Elliot) Sweatt. She attended school in Canaan, NH graduating from Canaan High School in 1940. She also graduated from Margaret Pillsbury School of Nursing in 1943. During World War II she enlisted in the Army and served in the South Pacific as a 2nd  Lieutenant, and Registered Nurse. She worked at several area hospitals including Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and Valley Regional Hospital. She retired from Valley Regional Hospital in 1986 with 30 years of service. She will be remembered as a quiet, proud, strong, and caring person.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Philip J. Beaton of Claremont, daughter, and son-in-law Bonnie and Joseph Rozzo of Cornish, son G. Douglas Beaton of Londonderry, grandson, Jason Rozzo, Dover, and granddaughters Jessica Rozzo, Medford, MA, Mara Beaton, and Tori Beaton, Chesterfield, VA., three great-grandsons, a sister Joyce Bill of Milton, NH, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Sibyl Gambell, Canaan and Lloyd Laware, Lebanon.

Eleanor was an active member of the Ladies Union Aide Society, the Claremont Garden Club, and the Claremont Senior Center and enjoyed dining with the “Lunch Bunch”. She loved her home, gardening, and caring for her pets especially her cats Mindy and Casper and most recently Angus. The most important part of Eleanor’s life was being with and caring for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Services will be held on Monday, November 10, at the Stringer Funeral Home on Broad Street, Claremont at 11AM with Rev. Alley of the First Congregational Church officiating. Interment at the Mountain View Cemetery will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Ladies Union Aide Society at Valley Regional Hospital or the A.S.P.C.A.
