Hiram A. (Terry) Ferry, 89, formerly of Winter Street in Claremont, died Thursday evening, September 25, 2008 at the Genesis Eldercare Center in Lebanon.

He was born in Northfield, VT on September 20, 1919 the son of Henry L. and Mary (Blaine) Ferry and had resided in Claremont since 1940.  Mr. Ferry worked for Bills Radio Service and the IGA both in Northfield, VT and then came to Claremont and worked for Joy Foundry from 1940 to 1942.  He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1946. Returning from the service, he worked in assembly at Joy Manufacturing, Home Service Refrigeration Company, Cone Blanchard, Bryant Grinder and retired  in 1984 from Vermont Research in Springfield, VT where he did assembly and service.

Mr. Ferry was a faithful communicant of St Mary’s Church.   He was a member of the NH Ballroom Association.  He and his wife loved ballroom dancing. He was a lover of life, family, friends and hard work.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, snowmobiling, sugaring and truly was a “jack of all trades”.  He will be missed by many.

He was pre-deceased on February 12, 2006, by his wife,  Rachel “Rae” (Angers) Ferry whom he married on April 27, 1946.

The surviving family includes one daughter, Donna Jean Christy and her husband, Stephen of Lebanon; one grandson, Kenneth A. Christy of New York City; one granddaughter, Melissa L. Christy of Milton, MA; and one brother, Henry Ferry, of Northfield, VT and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Irene Cooper and Liliah Dole and four brothers, Earle, Everett, Roger and Clarence Ferry.  

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 30th at One-Thirty in the afternoon in St Mary’s Church with Rev. Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, and Rev. William Kaliyadan, co-officiating.

Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery.
