James Arthur Laushance, 93, formerly of Eric Place in Claremont, died July 1, 2008 at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport.

He was born in Newport, NH on March 23, 1915 and had resided in Claremont most of his life.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army military Police and was a prisoner of war.

Mr. Laushance worked for the Eagle Times in maintenance for 26 years and also for Agel-Corman Furniture Store on Pleasant Street.

He was the widower of Dorothy Eleanor (Ploof) Laushance whom he married on March 23, 1948 and she died March 18, 2005.

The surviving family includes two sons, David Laushance and Victor Laushance both of Oklahoma; several grand and great-grandchildren and a special friend, Aura-Lee Nicodemus of Enfield.

He was also pre-deceased by one daughter, Virginia Velcourt in 1999 and three sisters, Hattie, Elsie and Olive.

Interment with full military honors will be held in the Vermont State Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, VT at the convenience of the family.
