Leo P. Duranleau, 76, of Eastman Loop in Unity, died Thursday evening, July 3, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Barre, VT on January 8, 1932 the son of Victor and Lodina (Sylvester) Duranleau.

Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, pool and going to the ocean.  His family was the most important thing in his life.  He was strong and brave during his battle with cancer.

He retired as the supervisor of maintenance in 1997 from the Sullivan County Nursing Home where he worked for fourteen years and previously worked at Costa Tool.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1201, the Polish American Citizens Club, the American Logion Post #29 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #879,

The surviving family includes his wife, Marie (Pinard) Duranleau of Unity whom he married on Aug. 23, 1952; two daughters, Susan Chase and her husband Alan of Newport and Cathy Chamberlain and her husband, Alan of Claremont; one son, Leo Victor Duranleau of Enfield;  his grandchildren, Sarah Montanari of Enfield, Benjamin Chase of Portland, OR, Kate Chamberlain, James Chamberlain, Shaylor Duranleau and Chelsey Duranleau all of Claremont, Joshua  Carr of White River Jct., VT and Hunter Duranleau of Enfield; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Montanari; one niece, Sandra Patterson of Portola Valley, CA.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, a granddaughter, Mallory Duranleau in 1988, a sister, Olivia Sibson in 2000 and his beloved choc. Lab, Molly in 2007.

Friends are invited to a time of visiting and sharing with the family, at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Wednesday evening, July 9th from 6 to 8 PM.

Funeral Services and Interment will be held privately at a late date.
