Louise Lyon Pope, 90, of Charlestown died Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH. 

She was born in New Haven, Connecticut on December 8, 1917 the daughter of Frank and Louise (Benat) Lyon.  She was the eldest daughter of thirteen siblings. 

In high school she excelled at mathematics and basketball.  Upon graduation she attended John Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD where she received her RN degree and worked for many years.  There she met Russell H. Pope, a medical student who specialized in pathology and became Chief of Pathology at Bridgeport Hospital.  They married on May 21, 1943 and resided in Connecticut for many years, before retiring to New Hampshire.

Louise was an excellent cook and seamstress who sewed many of her own clothes.  She enjoyed gardening and reading and spent many years researching the genealogy on both sides of the family.

She is survived by one son, Russell H. Pope, Jr.; one daughter, Susan L. Pope both of Charlestown and one grandson Aaron Brown of Claremont.

Private Graveside services will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown.
