Norman McKinley Burr, 80, died Thursday morning, September 11, 2008 at his home.   He was a native and life long resident of Claremont, NH, born on August 27, 1928 the son of William and Lena (Prud’homme) Burr. 

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Gordon and Richard.

The surviving family includes his wife, Carol (Morin) Burr; one son, William Burr; granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Burr and nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Stevens High School in 1946, he worked for the First National and for Joy Manufacturing as an expeditor.  For the next 42 years he faithfully served the community.   He originally started working for the city as a call firefighter for 5 years in the hose company, before joining the Claremont Fire Department as a full-time firefighter.  He retired in 1979 after 23 years of service.  For the next 14 years he worked part-time for the Claremont Police Department as Parking Enforcement and Crossing Guard.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 17th   at Eleven O’clock in St Joseph Church with Rev. Father Patrick Gilbert, officiating.  Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery.
