Paul A. Gere, 62, died suddenly on October 26, 2008. He was born in Amityville, NY on April 18, 1946, the son of the late Wilmer M. and Viola (Van Vleck) Gere. Following graduation from Amityville Memorial High School, he entered the Army to serve his country in Vietnam where he received campaign medals and was an expert M-14 rifleman. On June 28, 1981, he married Mary'L Wiswall in Brookville, NY. He had a varied career path as a multitalented individual from maintaining a school complex, to creating beautiful woodenware to gunsmithing on Long Island. After moving to Unity in 1983, he logged in the New Boston area, delivered mail in Newport, Goshen, Lempster, and Unity, and worked in various positions for the Town of Unity. But his greatest career move was being Mr. Mom and Mr. Fix-it for his family, while trying to build a portable sawmill business, before retiring this past April. He was a lifelong member of the NRA. He was predeceased by his parents. Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughters, Susan M. (Gere) Tarczewski and her husband Erick of Claremont and Mary E. Gere of Unity, his son, Robert P. Gere of Unity and many cousins. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the East Unity Cemetery on Gilman Pond Rd, Unity.
