Paul Anthony “Flash” Gignac, 77, of Plainfield, NH died on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT after a short illness. He was born on December 28, 1930 to Paul and Edna (Kenyon) Gignac in Watertown, NY. He graduated from Broadalbin High School and he earned an associate degree from Alfred State College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Alfred University. He married Lynn Riker on July 8, 1961 and they raised four children. They lived in Alfred, NY where Paul was a professional photographer, taking pictures of people and events around the Alfred area for many years. He also worked for the NY State College of Ceramics and Alfred University teaching photography, photographing students and college events, and documenting student and faculty research. On his property in Alfred, he built “The Pond” and “The Cabin” for family vacations. Although not a farmer, he raised chickens, pigs and his prized pheasants. Throughout his life he was an avid hunter and fisherman; fishing various locations on Lake Ontario, in Cape Vincent, NY and in Canada. He continued to be an avid photographer in retirement, learning to use digital photography and printing techniques. He enjoyed traveling, with his wife in the United States, Canada, and Europe, summering in Plainfield, NH and wintering in Seminole, FL. Paul was predeceased by his wife of forty-seven years, Lynn R. Gignac who died on October 9, 2008. Survivors include his brother René V. Gignac of Seminole, FL; sister-in-law Kathy Gignac of Seminol, FL; two daughters and their spouses, Jill and Tim Hanson of Charlestown, NH and Amy and David Brady of Plainfield, NH; two sons John Gignac of Lebanon, NH and David Gignac of Langley, WA; two granddaughters, Samantha and Emily Brady; three nieces Mary Jo Lesperance, Kelly Cruise, and Patty Ridenour; and a nephew René V. Gignac Jr. His ashes will be buried at Hope Hill Cemetery in Charlestown, NH at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mt Ascutney Hospital and Health Center. |
