Ralph William Cosseboom, 76, of East Road, Cornish, died at his residence on Friday evening, June 13, 2008.

He was born in Mt. Kisco, NY on March 1, 1932 the son of William Henry and Lucille (Madigan) Cosseboom and had resided in Cornish since 1995 and previously lived in Barkhamsted, CT for forty years.  He also had a home in Long Key, FL.

He attended Admiral Villard Academy and received a bachelors degree from the University of Connecticut in 1953 where he was an active member of the Phi Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

He was a veteran having served in the US Army.

He began his career with the Travelers Insurance Group where he earned a CLU.  He was an insurance broker that held a CPCU and a CIC.  He then started the Cosseboom Insurance Group in New Britain, CT growing to Middletown, CT and New Hartford, CT.

He was a life-long member of the American Legion, a Past President of the New Britain Lions Club, a member of the Elks and a Son of the American Revolution as well as a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite.  He was a Mounted Desert Sheik of the Shriners all in the State of Connecticut

Mr. Cosseboom was also a Notary Public and a Justice of the Peace.

He loved all types of fishing, especially at his home in the Florida Keys where he caught the fourth largest yellow fin tuna on record.

He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, golfing, riding and refurbishing his many tractors and traveling with his loving and devoted wife of twenty-seven years.  We will miss him dearly.

The surviving family includes his wife Lorraine Ellen (Goyette) Cosseboom of Cornish whom he married June 5, 1981; seven children, R. William Cosseboom of West Linn, OR, Elisabeth Cosseboom Miller of Falls Village, CT, Carolyn Cosseboom Harris of Burlington, CT, Kenneth Yacono of W. Strafford, CT, Michael Yacono of Cornish, NH, Delore Cosseboom Belanger of Auburn, NH and Jennifer Cosseboom of Claremont; ten grandchildren and one sister, Brenda Cosseboom.

He was pre-deceased by a brother Roger A. Cosseboom and a sister Beverly Cray.

At the family’s request, services will be private.
