Raymond Arthur Evans, Jr., 67, of Lang Road in Cornish, went home to be with the Lord on November 28, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Quincy, MA on October 24, 1941 the son of Raymond Arthur and Eleanor Marie (Gilson) Evans, Sr.  He had resided in Cornish for the past 31 years and had previously lived in Hudson, OH for 4 years and in Wollaston, MA for 11 years.

Ray retired on Oct. 17, 2008 from Esersky’s Hardware, where “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it” which he and his wife owned and operated for 31 years.  He had previously worked at Stouffer’s Foods and Howard Johnson’s.  

He was a member of Rotary International from 1979 to 1990 and was President of the Claremont Rotary Club from 1983 – 1984.  He was also a member of the Cornish School Board for 12 years and served as the School District Moderator for 6 years.

The surviving family includes his wife, Lorette M. (Coletti) Evans of Cornish, whom he married on Dec. 15, 1962; one son, Raymond Arthur Evans, III and his wife, Elizabeth of Rogers, AR; two daughters, Kristen Evans Doran and her husband, Simon Paul of Claremont and Sarah Evans Baczek and her husband, Gregory Charles of Barrington; seven grandchildren; his mother, Eleanor Evans of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two sisters, Barbara  Rotundo of San Jose, CA and Judy Lewis of Chesapeake, VA.  He was pre-deceased by his father in 1980.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Friday, Dec. 5^th from 5 to 8 PM.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning, Dec. 6^th at Eleven O’clock at the Plainfield Community Baptist Church, with Rev. Suellen Leugers, Pastor, officiating.  A Luncheon will follow at the Grange Hall in Plainfield.

Interment will be private in the Chase Cemetery in Cornish.
