Victor J. LaFont, Jr., 60, formerly of 7 Heritage Drive in Claremont, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Sullivan County Health Care.

He was a native and life long resident of Claremont, NH, born on Dec. 24, 1947 the son of Victor J. and Rita D. (Greenwood) LaFont. 

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in the Class of 1965. 

Butch was a veteran of the US Army from 1965 to 1968 and did a tour of duty in Vietnam “during the Tet Offensive”.

He worked in the shoe shops and woolen mills in the area and was a machine operator for Woods Company of Vermont in Brownsville where he made side shelves for the Ducan Gas Grills.

The surviving family includes one son, Alan LaFont; one grandson, Christopher LaFont both of Claremont; three brothers, Donald E. LaFont of Enfield, Michael S. LaFont and James A. LaFont both of Claremont;  nieces and nephews; four uncles, Armand J. LaFont , Ernest Greenwood, Jr., Arthur “Joe” LaFont and Thomas W. Greenwood all of Claremont; three aunts, Leona Gagnon of Ascutney, VT, Lorraine Kees of Croydon/Grantham and Barbara L. Tenney of Ascutney, VT.

Predeceased by his father, Victor LaFont, Sr. on Feb. 21, 2008; his mother, Rita D. (Greenwood) LaFont on Mar. 8, 1995; a cousin, Randall Greenwood in 1968; three aunts, Shirley L. Blake in 1992 and Evelyn Colby in 2008 and Doris Lafont in 1987; six uncles, Theodore Greenwood in 1944, Arthur E. “Pete” Greenwood in 2003, Roger D. Boisvert in 2002 and Emile J. LaFont, Ted LaFond in 1987 and Ray LaFont in the early 90’s.

Graveside committal services will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. on Friday, September 5th at Eleven O’clock.
