Barbara A. Harris, 60, died peacefully with family by her side, Monday, July 6, 2009 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

She was born, July 18, 1948 in Jamaica, NY, daughter of Herbert Poit and Alice Drake. Growing up in Sayville, NY, she met Douglas A. Harris, who she married on August 25, 1966. As a newly married couple, they purchased a home in Medford, NY where they built their life together. They worked very hard to provide for their family. Shortly after Douglas’ passing, January 4, 1984, Barbara became an early pioneer in home-based business by starting an administrative support business which allowed her to take care of her two young children.

In 1991, she met Dick Ward who not only helped finish her home, but also completed her life. They relocated to Charlestown, NH in 1993 where she was employed part-time by CRJC as Office Manager. Barbara’s part-time job allowed her to spend time at home with Dick working on various home projects creating a home that she loved to share with friends and family. In late 2005, for her love of animals, she became actively involved in the River Valley Animal Protection League and soon thereafter became a board member.

She is survived by her life partner of 18 years, Dick Ward, her daughter Deborah Mustacaros and her son in law Jim Mustacaros, her stepson Eric Ward and her daughter in law Jennifer Ward, granddaughters Tina Mahlstadt, Reagan Ward, Riley Ward and grandsons David Mahlstadt, and James A. Mustacaros Jr.

She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas A. Harris, son, Douglas A. Harris II, and her brother Jonathan Perry.

It was Barbara’s wish that there be a private celebration of her life for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to River Valley Animal Protection League, P.O. Box 860, Charlestown, NH 03603.
