Carl E. Goewey, 92, of Chestnut Street, died Friday evening June 19, 2009 at Woodlawn Health Center in Newport, NH.

He was born in Acworth, NH on April 17, 1917 the son of Joseph and Cora (Lawrence) Goewey and had resided in Claremont most of his life.

He was a veteran of World War I having served in the US Army.

Carl retired from Frank W. Whitcomb in Walpole, NH as a mechanic.

After retiring he worked for his nephew at Ray Brown’s Garage in the morning and for Rivard’s Small Engine Repair in the afternoon.

Carl married Ava (Smith) on July 27, 1947 and she died April 19, 2003.

The family includes one son Richard Goewey of Claremont; three grandchildren, Frank Couitt, Richard Calderon, and Timothy Calderon; eight great-grand children.  He was predeceased by a son Frank Goewey in 1969; one daughter Dorothy J Couitt in 2008 and a granddaughter Michele Lynn Couitt –West in 2007;  also six sisters and five brothers.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 23rd at 11 am at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH with the Reverend Dr.  Winn Alley, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating.  Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 am prior to the service.  Burial will be held Wednesday June 24th at 11am in Mountain View Cemetery.
