David Lloyd Carter, 83, of Carter’s Road, South Charlestown, NH died Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH.
He was born in Boston, MA on February 16, 1926 the son of Leslie Day and Margaret (Campbell) Carter and had resided in Charlestown most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.
Mr. Carter retired in 1996 from S.R. Young’s Gas Co. where he worked as plant manager of LP deliveries for 47 years and worked part time until 2007.
He was a 45 years member of the Charlestown Fire Department, also drove the Model T and was a Deputy Fire Warden. He was a member of the Charlestown Memorial VFW Post 8497, the American Legion and Polish American Club in Bellows Falls, VT, the Rod & Gun Club and the Springfield Moose Club.
Mr. Carter enjoyed woodworking, loved camping and was a member of the NAFCA Chapter 1 of Springfield, VT.
The surviving family includes his wife, Hazel (Morrow) Carter of Charlestown whom he married on Oct. 6, 1947; three sons, James Carter and his wife Cindy, Allan Carter both of Charlestown, and Richard Carter and his wife, Luann of Claremont; two daughters, Mary Lawlor and her husband Robert Sr. of Westminster, VT and Barbara Silver of Titusville, Fl; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Mahoney and her husband, John of Methuen, MA and his beloved cat, April.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and a son Douglas Carter who died April 22, 1979.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1st at Eleven O’clock in the morning at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main St., Charlestown, NH with Rev. Susan Grant Rosen, Pastor of the Charlestown Congregational Church, officiating. A reception will follow at the Charlestown VFW on Lovers Lane Road.
Friends may call at the chapel on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be at a later date.
