Eileen H. Couture, 94, formerly of East St. in Claremont, died Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Fairview Nursing Home in Groton, CT with her family by her side.  

She was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada on December 14, 1914, the daughter of the late Louis A. and Katherine E. (McGuire) Carton and had resided in Claremont most of her life.  

Eileen was a 1934 graduate of Somersworth High School, Somersworth, NH.

She was employed at the Manchester Credit Bureau, Manchester, NH and retired in 1976 after 18 years with the Corner Book Shop in Claremont, NH.

 She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Claremont; Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Claremont  Country Club.

 Eileen married Theodore R. Couture on October 12, 1940.  Ted died on March 24, 1997.

 Eileen is survived by a daughter Carolyn C. Leach and her husband Christopher of Gales Ferry, CT; a son Richard T. Couture and his wife Lile of Marlborough, CT;  a brother John Carten and his wife Virginia of Manchester, NH; 5 grandchildren, Steven Highter, Katherine Highter, Michael Couture and his wife Alison, Amy Couture, and David Couture; 2 great granddaughters, Sydney Highter and Sheridan Highter and several cherished nieces and nephews.

Eileen was predeceased by a brother Douglas Carton and his wife Eileen of Claremont, NH.

 A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St., Claremont with the Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. 

Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
