Eugene N. Gagnon, 82, of Pleasant Street Claremont died Thursday evening, June 18 2009 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Boston, MA on May 21, 1927 the son of Albert and Helen (Dunn) Gagnon. He was a veteran of WWII in the US Marine Corp and served in China. Eugene was a mason by trade working for numerous contractors in the Upper Valley. He worked with his son at K.M. Gagnon, Inc. of Claremont for many years and retired in 1992. He was a member of the Bricklayers and the Allied Craftsmen and received his Fifty Year Gold card. Eugene enjoyed fishing, gardening and loved to putter around on Jarvis Hill and the Maple Avenue properties. Eugene’s greatest love was for his family. He married Leona (Lee) LaFont on June 10, 1950. The family includes two sons Thomas Gagnon and Kerry Gagnon and his wife Jana both of Claremont; two daughters Gloria Dichard of Arizona and Pamela Smith and her husband Bill of Williamstown, VT. Nine grandchildren Five great – grandchildren; four brothers Harry Gagnon of South Hadley, Ma; Edward Gagnon of North Hampton, Ma; Kenneth Gagnon of Montpelier, VT and Floyd Gagnon of Springfield, VT; three sisters Dorothy Lockwood of Springfield, VT; Shirley Young of Wichita, Kansas and Diane Wyman of Sunapee NH, also, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother John (Jack) Gagnon. Funeral services will be held Monday morning, June 22th at Eleven O’clock at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont with Rev. Stanley J. Piwowar, officiating. Burial will follow at The West Claremont Burying Ground. Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 am prior to the service.
