Evelyn A. Thurber, 92, formerly of 154 Lempster Street, Lempster died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Muncy, PA. She was a native and life long resident of Lempster, NH born on March 14, 1916, the daughter of William D. and Nina L. (Hunt) Thurber. Evelyn graduated from Keene High School. She worked for Newport Hospital in the housekeeping department for many years. Mrs. Thurber was a member of the American Legion Auxillary, Silver Mountain Grange #196, East Lempster Community Church and the Ladies of the Church Circle. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, crocheting, cross stitching, making puzzles, gardening, flowers and animals. She was the widow of George H. Thurber whom she married on May 17, 1948 and he died on November 26, 1965. Evelyn is survived by one son, Everett Thurber and his wife Claire of Lempster; two daughters, Ruth Beatrice and her husband James, Nina Thurber all of Muncy, PA; seven grandchildren; Kelly Gobin and her husband Jack of Goshen, Kimberly Jordan and her husband Drew of Lempster, Chad Thurber and his wife Brenda of Claremont, Althea Beatrice and Anthony Beatrice both of Muncy, PA, Richard Boomhower of Webster, Carmlee Wells of Newport; Nine great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. She was pre-deceased by two sons; Maurice Boomhower, Lawrence “Butch” Boomhower; one brother, Everett F. Thurber; three sisters, Ruth Smith, Martha Lambert, Laura Champney and one grandson; James Beatrice. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Twelve O’clock at the Funeral Home with Rev. Donna Leslie, Pastor of the Croydon Flat Church, Croydon, NH, officiating. Graveside committal services will be held Saturday May 16th at 11am in the East Lempster Cemetery, Lempster, NH. with Rev. Donna Leslie, Pastor of the Croydon Flat Church, Croydon, NH, officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Friends of the Lempster Meeting House Restoration Fund, 5 Wheelock Lane, Lempster, NH 03605 or to the Sullivan County Humane Society, PO Box 111, Claremont, NH 03743. |
