Kenneth Morrison MacAskill, age 81, died at his home at 40 Ridge Avenue in Claremont, NH on Friday afternoon, September 4th, 2009.   He was born in South Barre, VT to Donald and Stella Morrison MacAskill on June 7th, 1928.

His early schooling was in Williamstown and Lower Graniteville, VT.   He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1946.  After graduating, he worked for Rock of Ages in Graniteville where he sawed granite. 

          Kenneth married Ella Young in Montpelier, VT on June 30th, 1951, and they enjoyed over fifty eight years together.

          Kenneth managed a Check-R-Board feed and hardware store in Lyndonville, VT for five years.  He was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company for over thirty-two years.  In 1962, the family moved to Claremont where he worked as a Sales Manager.   He received many company and industry awards for both volume and quality of business written.  In addition, he received the National of Business Award for over thirty consecutive years and was an active member of the National, State and Local Life Underwriters Association (NALU).   He was a graduate of the Life Underwriters Training Council and completed two years of the College of Life Underwriters.

          He served on the board of directors of the Scottish Club of the Twin State Valley and served as local chairman of the Vermont Heart Association.  He also served as a New Hampshire State Representative for Claremont and Unity in 2000 and 2001.

           Kenneth held fifty year memberships in the Masonic Hiram Lodge #9 of Claremont and Summit Lodge #104 of Williamstown, VT.  He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Knights of Birmingham.  He was also a member Woodman-Aurora Chapter #26 Order of the Eastern Star.

          He was a former member of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational churches teaching 7th and 8th grade Sunday school classes for several years.  He served as a deacon in the Congregational Church and was a chairman of the Missions Committee.  He was currently a member of the West Unity United Methodist Church.

          Kenneth enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He had a keen interest in genealogy and photography and he loved to travel and to fish.

          In addition to his wife, Ella, he is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Post, and her husband, Larry, and a granddaughter, Vita May Gould, of St. Albans, ME; a son, Donald MacAskill and his wife, Debra, and two grandchildren, Micah and Kayla, of Chambersburg, PA; a daughter, Laurie Fontaine, and her husband, Robin, and a grandson, Daniel Fontaine, and his fiance’, Samantha Ayers, of Claremont; one brother, A. Roy MacAskill, of East Brookfield, VT, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

          He was predeceased by three brothers; Clifford MacAskill, Donald MacAskill and William MacAskill, and one sister, Mary MacAskill Moberg.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 PM at the Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Sanborn, officiating.

Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
