Norman F. Van Ord, 74, of Claremont died Sunday evening January 18, 2009 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital. He was born on November 2nd, 1934 in Russell, PA, the son of Agidius and Marion Van Ord. Norman graduated from Sugar Grove – Farmington Joint High School in 1952 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry at Pennsylvania State University. Norman was in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, served in Korea and enjoyed playing baseball for the 4th Cavalry while he served. Norman joined Blue Seal Feeds, Inc., as a Dairy Sales Representative in 1968, held the positions of Dairy Feeds Specialist, Area Manager, Division Manager, VP – Marketing, Executive Vice President, and retired as President in November of 1999. Norman is a member of the Holstein Association, New England States Holstein Association and New Hampshire Holstein Club. Norman enjoyed his final years working the family dairy farm in Claremont, NH with his two sons Douglas & Timothy Van Ord. In 1962 Norman married Mary Jane Focht from Reading, PA, daughter of Daniel and Grace Focht. Together they raised three children, Lori, Douglas & Timothy, and lived in East Greenbush NY, Cobleskill NY, Amherst NH and finally Claremont NH at Ascutney View Farm. Norman thoroughly enjoyed his four grandchildren, Benjamin (17), Joshua (16), Sarah (13) and Luke (4) Kinsley who live in Williston, VT, with Lori and son-in-law Mark. Norman is survived by his his wife Mary Jane and their three children; his sister Margaret Dalrymple from Peachland NC; his brothers Donald Van Ord and Robert Van Ord from Russell PA, Kenneth Van Ord from Howell, MI, and their families. We will all miss you Norman/Grandpa, and will always cherish fond memories together on the farm, tractor and Gator rides, throwing hay bales, caring for all your cows and helping you feed the calves. A sincere thanks to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock neurosurgery team, ICU, care management and Mt. Ascutney hospice staff for all their patience, information and compassion. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday April 17th at 11am in the First Congregational Church, 72 Pleasant Street, Claremont, NH with Reverend Winn Alley, Pastor officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
