Robert Kinsley Jackson, 91, of East Street Ext. in Charlestown, died Monday afternoon, July 20, 2009, at his home.  He was born in Brockton, MA on July 11, 1918, the son of Perley Elroy and Lillian (Kinsley) Jackson.  He was raised in Whitman, MA, and lived in Charlestown, NH for the last 24 years  after retirement.

Mr. Jackson graduated from Whitman High School, Whitman MA, with the Class of 1936.  After a post graduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy, he graduated from Princeton University in 1941.  During his student years, he excelled in both academics and sports.  While at Princeton, he set several athletic records in both football and track, and received the Bonthron award for sportsmanship, performance, and influence in his senior year.

As a veteran of World War II, he served a distinguished five-year military tour as a Captain in the Field Artillery, U. S. Army, earning a number of decorations in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Jackson retired from the Forman School in Litchfield CT after a nearly 40-year career in private school education.  Over the course of his career, he taught math and science, coached football, basketball, and track, and held positions in school administration.  He served as Headmaster for 20 years, including 15 years at the King School in Stamford CT.

During his retirement, Mr. Jackson continued his academic interests by teaching GED classes at the Sullivan County House of Corrections and the NH Technical College and chaired the Charlestown School Study Committee.  He also volunteered with the Charlestown Historical Association and Food Pantry.  Mr. Jackson was a former Rotarian and Masonic member.  In 2004, he was honored by the Charlestown Rotary Club receiving their “Service above Self Award” for exemplary service to the community.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine (Pappas) Jackson, by daughter Patricia Jackson of Woodstock NY, sons: Richard Jackson of Budd Lake, NJ, Robert Jackson of Athens, GA, Donald Jackson of Randolph NJ, and Christopher Jackson of Charlestown NH; three daughters-in-law: Denise, Susan, and Annette; and three grandchildren: Ian, Christopher, and Kaethe; niece Penelope (Pappas) Sells and nephew George Pappas.  He will be loved and missed by his many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Friends may call at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, 34 Main Street in Charlestown on Wednesday July 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. 

A memorial service will be held at South Parish Unitarian Church, Charlestown NH on Thursday, July 30th at 11 am.
