Robert “Bob” Louis Laramie, 72, of James Street in Charlestown, died Tuesday afternoon, December 8, 2009 at the Valley Regional Hospital. He was born in Claremont, NH on November 13, 1937 the son of Eugene A. and Leona (Charest) Laramie and resided in Charlestown and Claremont nearly all his life. He was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of 1957 and a graduate of the University of Maryland. He served in the US Army. Robert retired in 1998 from his Parking Lot Sweep Co. which he owned and operated for ten years. He previously was chief of security at Eastman Association also worked as a police officer for the Claremont Police Department and for the Vermont Government Crime Commission. He was a member of the Charlestown Recreation Department and Trustee of the Charlestown Silsby Free Library. He coached for the Charlestown swim team, the little league and was a Boy Scout leader. The surviving family includes his wife, Dian (Morrison) Laramie of Charlestown whom he married on May 20, 1961; two daughters, Michele Laramie Lacroix of New Ipswich and Beth Laramie of Newport; two sons, Michael Laramie of Bartlett and Matthew Laramie of Grantham; grandchildren, Justin Lacroix, Dylan Marsh, Krystyna Laramie, Drew Laramie, Ethan Marsh, Jennifer Laramie, Katherine Laramie, and Caroline Laramie; one sister, Dorothy Smolnik of Claremont; one brother, Ronald Laramie of Boise, ID and nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Friday evening from 5 to 7 PM. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday morning, December 12th at Eleven O’clock at the Funeral Home with Rev. Father Stanley J. Piwowar, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
