Roger G. Filion Sr., 85, formerly of Girard Avenue, Claremont, died December 23, 2009 at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport. He was born in Nashua, NH on July 26, 1924 the son of Herman and Rose A. (Turcotte) Filion. He was raised and went to school in Bellows Falls, VT. Roger was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy as a firefighter on aircraft carriers. He retired from Joy Manufacturing after 35 years of employment. Roger enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, reading and watching soccer games and other sports. He had a knack for making people laugh and enjoyed doing so until his last days. He was a member of the VFW and past Commander of the Claremont American Legion Post #29 and The family includes his wife Myra (Mclain) Filion; one daughter, Linda Filion; one son, Roger Filion, Jr. of Charlestown; five grandchildren, Ronnie Hewey, Jarrod Filion, Davina Filion, Heath Miller and Chad Filion; four great grandchildren; one sister, Jeannette Guastamachio of CT; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Filion, Richard Filion, Gilbert Filion; one daughter, Donna Miller. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday afternoon December 29th at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont at 2PM with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien of St. Mary Church, officiating. Visiting hours will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Mtn. View Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Claremont American Legion Post #29. |
