Rosamond Cecelia Denis, 94, a former long time resident of Maple Street in Claremont, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the Elmwood Center of Claremont. She was born in Franklin, NH on Dec. 31, 1914 the daughter of George and Eva (Riel) Lapointe. She was raised in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in the Class of ’32 and moved to Claremont in 1946. Rosamond retired in 1980 from the New Hampshire Division of Welfare, Claremont office. Previously she worked in the office of Agel-Corman Furniture Company in Claremont; the NH Medical Division in Concord; the City Clerk’s Office in Franklin and during World War II at the War Price Rationing Board in Franklin. After retirement she enjoyed volunteer work at St. Mary’s Parish. She enjoyed music, theater, reading and playing cards and games with family, especially her grandchildren. Rosamond and her husband enjoyed traveling. One highlight was a trip to Rome and was present at an audience with Pope John Paul II. She was a communicant of St Mary’s Church, a member and Past Grand Regent of Court Virgil H. Barber #892 Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the St. Anne Society. The surviving family includes her husband, Paul J. Denis of Claremont whom she married on Nov. 11, 1943; one daughter, Kathleen M. Lapierre of Windham, ME; three sons, Michael G. Denis of Manchester, CT, Thomas A. Denis of Moosic, PA and William A. Denis of Manchester, NH; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Goodhue of Edgewater, FL also nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Members of the Catholic Daughters of Americas and the St Anne Society are asked to meet at 7 PM for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday afternoon at One O’clock in St Mary’s Church with Rev. Father Al Dagnoli, officiating. Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery. The family suggests that donations may be made in her memory to St Mary’s Church, 32 Pearl Street, Claremont, NH 03743. |
