C. Jeannette Rita Clough, 97, of 52
Sullivan Street and a long time resident of Clay Hill Road in Claremont,
died Friday evening, July 2, 2010 at the Elm Wood Center at Claremont. She was born in Webster, MA on May 4, 1913 the daughter of Emile and Victoria (Henault) Remy and had resided in Claremont most of her life. She retired in 1972 from Joy Manufacturing Co. where she worked in the Personnel Department for nine years. Jeannette was a 57 year member and past Regent of Court Virgil H. Barber #892, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a member and past president of the Claremont Garden Club, a member of the supervisory Committee of the New Hampshire Community Federal Credit Union, a ballet clerk of Ward III and was a member of the Newport Area Choir. She was the widow of James E. Clough whom she married on Oct. 2, 1933. They were together 65 years. He died March 7, 1999. Jeannette was a very talented lady. She was an excellent seamstress and always had a flower garden, growing her favorite irises in many colors. She played the piano and sang with St. Mary's Church Choir and the Area Choir for many years. She was an avid reader, she painted on wood objects and stenciled on metal and was still making scarves a week before her death. She also tatted and crocheted. The surviving family includes three daughters, Marilyn Michener of Nashville, Ind., Margaret "Peg" Lapointe and her husband Donald and Lisa J. Miner all of Claremont; four sons, James J. Clough and his wife Loretta of Marianna, FL, Joseph A. Clough and his wife Julia of Sunapee, John E. Clough and his wife Jolene of Newport and Michael J. Clough and his wife Virginia of Stockbridge, GA; twenty-five grandchildren; forty-two great-grand-children; several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Anita Rouillard and Claire Nadeau and one brother, Ernest Remy. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM. The Catholic Daughters are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7 PM for services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, July 7th at Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor officiating. Interment will be held Friday, July 9th at Eleven O'clock in St Mary's Cemetery. The family suggests that donations may be made in her memory to St Mary's Church Renovation Fund, 32 Pearl Street, Claremont, NH 03743 or to the charity of one's choice. |
