It is with great sadness that we are posting this to let people know of the passing of Cornish resident Walter Wilson. We were fortunate to be Walter’s neighbors for nearly 12 years. He was known to many for his beautiful handmade whirly-gigs, birdhouses, and knickknacks that he sold out of his home and at the annual Fireman’s Auxilliary Craft Sale at the Town Hall each November. He will also be remembered for his flock of geese that, for many years, aided the Cornish PD in slowing traffic on Center Rd! Walter was a veteran of WWII and served many years as a Merchant Marine. Upon retiring from the Merchant Marines, he worked for several years at Mt Sunapee Ski Resort in Maintenance. Walter was born and raised in Connecticut. Despite living in Cornish for decades, he still referred to the Connecticut seacoast as “down home”. His wishes were that he be cremated and his ashes sprinkled in the ocean off his beloved Connecticut coast. He also did not want a formal service; however, we will be having a potluck get- together in a few weeks for anyone who would like to come by and share some stories. We will post a date shortly, with more details. Walter was a kind, funny, wonderful man with a soft spot for animals and children. Two charities he strongly supported were the Easter Seals and the Humane Society. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in his memory may consider donating to one of these.
