Avis Lorraine Giguere, 87, a former long time resident of 9 Melrose Street and 47 Sullivan Street in Claremont, NH, died Thursday evening April 15, 2010 at Elm Wood Center at Claremont, surrounded by her children and loving nurses.

She was born in Walpole, NH on Aug. 3, 1922, the daughter of Royal A. and Celia M. (Ornsby) Wallace and had resided in Claremont nearly all her life.  She was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of 1941.

Mrs. Giguere worked as a clerk for Houghton-Simonds, Bucko’s and Stevens Pharmacy and W.T. Grants.  She was a member of Court Virgil H. Barber #892 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, formerly the Circle 8 Square Dance Group, the Grange and B.P.W..

She was the widower of Francis Joseph Giguere whom she married on Aug. 4, 1945 and he died May 2, 1998 and was also pre-deceased by a son, Gary F. Giguere on June 29, 1959 and a brother, Royal Wallace on June 7, 1989.

The surviving family includes three daughters, JoAnne E. Debay and her husband,  Clyde “Butch” of Brockton, MA; Carole A. McCaffrey and her husband, John and Lisa M. Giguere both of Charlestown;   four grandsons,

Jeffrey and Keith Debay, Eric and Jason McCaffrey; one grand-daughter, Jodi Beth DeBay; four great-grandchildren;  three sisters, Muriel LaPointe of Brentwood, NH; Barbara Lafayette of Westmoreland, NH  and Maybelle Long of Bellows Falls, VT; one brother, John G. Wallace of Claremont and St Cloud, FL; also nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 24th at 1PM in St. Mary Cemetery on Plains Road, Claremont, NH.
