Evelyn J. Miles, 99, of Balsam Lane, Claremont, NH died Friday morning, April 9, 2010 at her home. She was born in South Ryegate, VT on February 3, 1911 the daughter of Ernest and Blanch (Brown) Ingram and had resided in Claremont since 1937. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Ethel and Frank Brown in S. Ryegate. She graduated from Montpelier Seminary School and taught for seven years in Northern Vermont grade schools. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, chairman of the former Circle Group and a Brownie Troup. She was a big Red Sox fan, enjoyed taking trips, loved cooking and baking and was known as “Grammy” in the neighborhood. She was the widow of Leighton E. Miles whom she married on Aug. 27, 1932 and he died March 29, 1997. The surviving family includes one daughter, Nancy Miles of Claremont and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre deceased by three brothers. There are no visiting hours. Graveside committal services will be held Monday, April 12th at 1:30 PM in Mt. View Cemetery Claremont, NH with Rev. Donna Page, Interim Pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. The Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH is in charge of arrangements.
