Everett R. Griffiths, 80, a long time resident of Sugar River Drive, died Saturday afternoon, November 13, 2010,  at his home on Tutherly Avenue in Claremont.

He was born in Worcester, MA on April 1, 1930 the son of Albert and Martha (Carnell) Griffiths.

Everett  was raised and schooled in Massachusetts, lived in Charlestown from 1972 to 1979 and resided in Claremont since 1979.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era and retired  June 11, 1965.

He worked as a clerk and communication specialist for the Charlestown Police Department from 1972 to 1973, the Claremont Police Department from 1973 to 1975 and 1976 to1984 and the State Police from 1975 to 1976 and retired from the Claremont Police Department on October 31, 1984 after 8 years as records clerk and then served the Claremont District Court from 1985 to 1995.

Everett was a member, Past Governor , a  member of the Legion of the Moose and Fellow Degree member  and Pilgrim Degree member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1201;a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #879;  a member of Masonic Hiram Lodge #9 ; the American Legion Post #29 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. The surviving family includes his wife, Hannah F. (Earle) Griffiths of Claremont whom he married on Oct. 27, 1965; three sons, Gary E. Griffiths and his wife Joyce, Walter J. Griffiths all of Claremont  and Austin F. Griffiths and his wife Deborah of the US Air Force in Benson, AZ;  seven  grandchildren;  one sister, Violet Hess of Concord, CA and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Albert M. Griffiths and Arthur D. Griffiths. 

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

The Moose Pilgrim Degree will do a service Wednesday evening at 7 PM and the American Legion Post #29 will do a service at 7:15  PM.

A Memory Service will be held Thursday morning, November 18th,  at Eleven O’clock , at the Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Louise Nichols, Pastor of the United Church of Cornish, officiating.

Interment with full military honors will follow in Comings Cemetery in Cornish.
