Fannie Esther Mardanes, 89, of Winter Street in Claremont, died Friday evening, April 23, 2010 at the home of her care givers, Rodney & Melissa Dorr. She was born in Farmington, NH on July 16, 1920 the daughter of Edgar Irving and Addie Mae (Hill) Huckins. She resided in Claremont most of her life and lived in Merrimack and Drewsville for a short time.

Fannie retired in 1983 from the State of New Hampshire Welfare Department, where she was employed as a case technician for nine years. She had previously worked for Sunapee Shoe in Newport and for twenty-two years at the A & P Grocery Store at the corner of Pine and Middle Streets in Claremont.

She was a member of the Patrons of Husbandry of the Grange, the B.P.W., the Woodman-Aurora Chapter #26 Order of Eastern Star, the Claremont Senior Center, the AARP and the Red Hatters.

She was the widow of Louis Mardanes whom she married on Feb. 28, 1936 and he died May 6, 1963.

The surviving family includes two sons, Louis A. Mardanes of Claremont and Lee A. Mardanes of Nashua; one daughter, Dianne E. Chase of Bandon, OR; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, B. Franklin Hayes of Florida and nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Mary Etta Huckins and Gertrude Huckins and one brother, Walter Huckins.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, April 28th at One O'clock at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Kearns, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in Mt View Cemetery.
