Helen Pauline “Polly” Agan, 77, of Elm Street, died November 8, 2010 at the home of her daughter after a brave battle against leukemia. She was born in Lyme, New Hampshire on January 30, 1933, the youngest child of Otis and Grace (Perkins) Sanborn. She attended schools in Lyme and Hanover. She married William Joseph “Bill” Agan in Norwich, Vermont on July 29, 1951. During the early years of their marriage they lived in North Carolina, Vermont, New York, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Missouri before moving to Claremont in 1964. Polly worked at W.T. Grant, Goddard Bakery and Claremont (Valley Regional) Hospital. She and her husband were very active for many years with the Shugah Valley Sno-Riders and also spent many summers camping at Caton Place campground in Cavendish. Polly loved Bingo and attended games at both the Knights of Columbus hall and Moose lodge. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 629 in Claremont. Along with Bill she traveled around the United States to attend National Conventions for the Moose. Her husband passed away in December 1997 and she continued to be active with the WOTM until her illness prevented it. Polly loved her children and grandchildren and was always willing to tell her friends stories of them. She also enjoyed showing off her extensive collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia from around the world. Survivors include her three sons: James William Agan working onboard the cruise ship MV Explorer; David Thomas Agan and his wife Kari of Enfield; and Jeffrey Richard Agan and his wife Laurie of Liverpool, New York; two daughters: Deborah Ann Monroe and her husband Leonard of Claremont; and Michelle Denise Rullo and her husband John of Lebanon; six grandchildren: Jennifer (Monroe) Maneri, of Manchester, Connecticut, Michael Agan of New Orleans, Christopher Rullo of Charlestown: Brianne Agan of Minnetonka, Minnesota; Rory Agan of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Trevor Agan of Liverpool and two great-granddaughters Madison and Samantha Maneri of Manchester, Connecticut. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins and her close sister-in-law Sandra Agan of White River and brother-in-law and sister-in-Law James and Shirley Agan of Colchester, Vermont. Polly was predeceased by her husband, an infant son Michael John Agan in 1956, her parents, seven brothers: Ralph “Bud” Sanborn, Clifford Sanborn, Harry Sanborn, Gordon Sanborn, Norman Sanborn, Richard Sanborn, and Howard “Billy” Sanborn; four sisters: Norma “Pat” Frost, Marion Merrick, Virginia Davis and Gracie Warren and one grandson, Dana Rullo. Visiting hours will be held Saturday Afternoon November 13th from 2 to 4PM at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH. Burial will be held privately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hartford, VT. Donations in her name may be made to Connecticut Valley Home Care, 958 John Stark Highway, Newport, NH 03773. |
