Henry Victor Tardiff, 75, died March 30,
2010, at the Marshall Medical Center in Placerville, CA, surrounded by
his family and friends.
He was born in Claremont, NH on March 28, 1935 the son of Victor and Beatrice (Ryan) Tardiff. Henry (known to many of his friends as "Vic") served his country in the USAF from 1952 to 1960 working as a cargo specialist on transatlantic flights and as a member of the Air Police on the island of Bermuda. After honorable discharge, Henry worked various jobs in several industries, eventually securing a position as a mechanical engineer and president of the local chapter of the United Steel Workers at Cone Blanchard Machine Company in Windsor, VT. He continued his career in mechanical engineering and design and was instrumental in the creation of US Patents. Later, he earned high positions at both Westinghouse and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, from where he retired in 1993. Henry was an active member of the American Legion and enjoyed several hobbies including amateur astronomy, reading, home remodeling, woodworking and various projects involving his trusty John Deere tractor. He loved children and was generous with both his time and money (and advice) to all his neighbors and friends. Henry is survived by his sister, Carol Harrington of Claremont; his brother, Wesley Relation of Burlington, VT; a daughter, Gloria Fleming of Claremont; two sons, David and Michael ; five grandchildren, Tony, Erik, Sara, Collin and Jessica and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurie Ann Tardiff in 1967. The family suggests that donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Drive, Bedford, NH 03110 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Memorial services are pending in both California and Claremont, NH and burial with full military honors by the Claremont American Legion Post #29 will be in St Mary's Cemetery in Claremont. |
