Irma May Baker, 82, formerly of Newport, died peacefully on Thursday morning, October 14, 2010.  She was born in Bristol, NH on October 9, 1928 the daughter of Walter Scott and Jennie Etta (Tucker) Fletcher.

Irma had worked as a nurses aid for various nursing homes & hospitals for several years.

She is the widow of Luther M. Baker, Sr., who she married on July 25, 1951 and he died on July 28, 1992.

May devoted her life to loving and taking care of children, they always were very dear to her heart.

May enjoyed spending her time at her daughter Betty’s country home in Unity, where she spent time with her three granddaughters and two great grandchildren, along with the other homes of her children.

The family includes two sons, Gloyd Baker of Dover, Delaware and his wife Linda, Lannie Baker of Newport and his wife Amanda; six daughters, Jennie Lussier of Newport and her husband Larry Jr., Hope Martinelli of Sunapee and her husband Henry, Nellie Poeltl of Derry and her husband Kevin, Elizabeth Spooner of Unity and her husband Bob, Pennie Stratton of Evergreen, CO and her husband Jeff, Estelle “Sis” Yeo and her husband Danny of Derry, NH;  two brothers, Justin Fletcher of Cornish and his wife Marjorie, Luther Fletcher of Wisconsin and his wife Andrea; twenty-five grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two great great grandsons, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was pre-deceased by two sons, Luther “Timmie” Baker, Jr and Gilbert “Gillie” Baker; one brother, Roland Fletcher, two sisters, Mabel Geer and Geneva Wadleigh.

There will be no visiting hours.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 23rd at Ten O’clock in the morning at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport with Pastor Scott Kearns of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
