Jon David Helie, 59, of the Old Springfield Road in Charlestown, died Saturday morning, February 20, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.  He was a native of Claremont, NH born on February 16, 1951 the son of Joseph T. and Laura B. (Rossi) Helie and had resided in Charlestown for the past twenty years.  He was a graduate of St Mary’s High School in the Class of 1969.

Jon owned and operated Helie’s Ceramic Tile and Flooring and also worked with his brother, Joe, his son Nick and his nephew, Jo Jo at Helie’s Carpet in Claremont.  He also worked with his daughter and son-in-law at their Ascutney Market.  He had previously worked at Can-Am, Joy Manufacturing,  and Lambert Supply.

He lived life to it’s fullest with his incredible sense of humor;  a master of  a good joke  and  a quick comeback.   He enjoyed slapstick comedy, westerns, going to his “camp”, canoeing, model building, long walks, bike riding, hiking,  and volleyball every Sunday, where he earned the nickname “Wall of Carpet.”  He took pride in his homemade pies and his beloved Yankees.

The surviving family includes his wife, Susan (Bomhower) Helie of Charlestown whom he married on June 24, 1995;  his daughter, Sarah Owen and her husband Michael of East Haven, VT;  his son, Jon Dominick Helie of Unity;  his step-daughter, Raven Horne of Claremont;  his brother, Joseph S. Helie and his wife Carol of Claremont;  his sister, M. Suellen Helie and her husband, Dana Kangas of Gloucester, MA;  his godmother Vivien Holland of Newport, N.H.;  his mother-in-law, T. Janet Bomhower of Wilder, Vt., aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and cousins;  and Susan’s siblings and families and his dog, Mya.

He was pre-deceased by his parents,  his brother, James A. Helie, and his father-in-law, Harold “Red” Bomhower.

At Jon’s request, there will be no visiting or funeral services.  A special gathering will be announced at a future date.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Connecticut Valley Home Care/ Hospice, 958 John Stark Highway, Newport, NH 03773 or a charity of your choice.  For those of you when taking your daily walk,  carrying on with Jon’s tradition of picking up the litter that others have left behind.
