Justin T. Zekos, 86, of Calavant Hill Road, North Charlestown died Thursday morning February 18, 2010 at the McGirr Nursing Home in Bellows Falls, Vermont after a short illness. He was born in Newport, NH on September 19, 1923 the son of Kazimerz and Zofia A. (Kretowicz) Zekos and had resided in North Charlestown for many years. He was a graduate of Stevens High School. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Air Force. Justin worked for Joy Manufacturing Company in the maintenance and electrical department, he retired in 1986 after working there for 46 years. He was a member of the United Steel Workers and was a strong negotiator for the workers, a member of St. Joseph’s Church, in the 1960’s he was a Special Police Officer for the Claremont Police Department. He is the widow of Ellen Margaret (Kinson) Zekos whom he married in 1951 and she died on July 18, 1997. The family includes three sons, Thomas C. Zekos of Stowe, VT, Martin J. Zekos of Unity, David A. Zekos of Cornish; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy MacPherson of Maryland. He was pre-deceased by two sisters; Wanda T. Suhesky in 1989 and Romona Ball in 1999. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street on Wednesday evening February 24th from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday Morning, February 25th at 11 AM in St. Joseph Church with Rev. George Majka, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
