Lillian May Benoit, 85, of Elm Street in Claremont, died Friday morning, May 28, 2010 at her home after a brief illness.

She was born in Proctorsville, VT on January 7, 1925 the daughter of Jack and Lena (Goux) Morgan and had resided in Claremont since 1952.

Lillian worked for the City of Claremont Welfare Department as a caregiver and homemaker and had previously worked in the shoe shops in the area.

She was the widow of Arthur W. Benoit whom she married on July 21, 1941 and he died in Feb. of 1978.

The surviving family includes one daughter, Patricia A. Benoit of Claremont; two sons, David M. Benoit of Leesburg, FL and Richard A. Benoit of Barre, VT; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Martin of Springfield, VT and Mildred Brown of Woodstock, VT; two brothers, Leon Morgan of Keene, and Arthur Morgan of Proctorsville, VT also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2nd at Eleven O’clock in the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont, with Rev. Shinhyung Ahu, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt View Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9 to 11 AM prior to the services.
