Linford John Bennett, 91, of Springfield Health and Rehab of North Springfield, VT, died Sunday evening, October 10, 2010 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.  He was born in West Topsham, VT on March 13, 1919 the son of Howard J. and Clara (Hood) Bennett and had previously resided in Chelsea, VT, Claremont, NH and Dade City, FL.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.

Linford worked as an automobile mechanic for Gateway Motors for 9 years in White River Jct., VT, later for R.S. Roberts, Inc.  for 13 years in Brattleboro, VT and lastly for Pasco Motors where he worked for 13 years and lived in Dade City, FL for 27 years.

He was the widower of Alice Mary (White) Bennett whom he married on Nov. 16, 1946 and she died July 14, 2001.

The surviving family includes one son, Douglas Bennett of Beaver, Utah;  two grandsons, Russell and Vincent Bennett;  three sisters Lois Bowles, Amber Beard and Marjorie Laccalide and one sister-in-law Naomi Lunge of Enosburg, VT.   He was pre-deceased two brothers, Darold Bennett and Gordon Bennett and three sisters, Dorothy Caswell,  Hazel Achilles,  and Velma LaRock.

There will be no visiting hours.   Graveside memorial services will be held Thursday, October 21, at One PM  at the Morningside Cemetery in Brattleboro, VT.
