Marie Leonard Veilleux, 92, formerly of 67 Maple Avenue, and a long time resident of 17 Clark Street, died Sunday evening, October 31, 2010 at the Mt. Ascutney Nursing Home in Windsor, VT.

She was born in North Pomfret, VT on October 2, 1918 the daughter of Oliver Rinaldo and Mary Ora (Smardon) Leonard and after the death of her father in 1934 the family moved to Cornish, NH.  She graduated from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden in 1937.

She worked at Cone-Blanchard Machine Co. in Windsor, VT during World  War II and at Williams Wonder Wash in Claremont from 1961 to 1975.

In 1975 she and her husband moved to Manchester, NH and she made custom drapes until 1980.  She and her husband spent summers on Lake Winnisquam in Belmont and wintered in Auburndale, FL from1980 until 1994.  She moved back to Claremont in 1995.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, making quilts, crocheting and playing cards.

She was the widow of Ernest Joseph “Dag” Veilleux whom she married on Oct. 26, 1940 in St Mary’s Church in Claremont and he died July 28, 1995.

The surviving family includes one son, Leonard Veilleux of Claremont; one daughter, Beverly Duval and her husband, Paul of Cornish; a grand-daughter, Dawn Crate of Enfield; a great-granddaughter, Nicole Crate of Enfield;  also nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by three brothers, Harvey, Burwin and Roger Leonard who all served in WWII, also one niece,  Mary Leonard Howard and one nephew, Andrew Harvey Leonard.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, Nov. 5th at Eleven O’clock in St Mary’s Church with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery.
