Peter R. Stark, 80, of 67 Maple Avenue died Saturday morning, July 17, 2010 at Valley Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in New York City, NY on February 28, 1930 the son of Peter J. and Catherine (Carmichael) Stark, II. He attended Long Island schools and graduated from Northport High School. He was a member of the 142nd Tank Division Rainbow, Freeport New York National Guard. Peter worked most of his career in the wire and cable industry as a purchasing agent in New York and Vermont. He Married Elizabeth “Bettie” Grella in 1954. The couple had resided on Long Island, New York, Vermont and most recently New Hampshire. Peter was very active in the Boy Scouts serving as District Commissioner for Suffolk County in Long Island, New York. He had a great love of trains and train travel. Peter maintained an extensive beer can collection gathering cans from all over the world. The family includes his wife, Bettie; one daughter, Beth Betourney of Claremont, NH; four sons, Stephen Stark and his wife, Ellen of Staten Island, NY, Peter J. Stark III and his wife, Connie of Bolingbrook, IL, Robert Stark and his wife, Darla of Smithtown Long Island, NY, and the youngest son Thomas Stark of Smithtown Long Island, NY; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Peter will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Friday afternoon and evening, July 23rd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and Saturday morning from 10 to 11AM. Funeral services will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home on Saturday, July 24th at 11 AM with Rev. Father Shawn M. Therrien, Pastor, of St. Mary Church officiating. Burial will follow at The West Claremont Burying Grounds in Claremont, NH A reception will be held at the Earl Bourdon Center, 67 Maple Avenue in Claremont immediately following the burial.
