Sabina Anna Novak, 91, of Court Street in Keene, NH, a former longtime resident of Fremont Street in Claremont, died Thursday evening, March 11, 2010, at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.

She was born in North Walpole, NH on March 27, 1918, the daughter of John and Magdelena (Swiatek) Panek.  She resided in Claremont for sixty-six years and in Keene since 2006.

Mrs. Novak was a nurses’ aide at the former Claremont Nursing Home, currently Elm Wood Center at Claremont for twenty-eight years, and retired in 1993.

She enjoyed knitting, crafts, baking cookies and being with her family.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, a member of the Ladies Adoration Society, Court Virgil H. Barber #892 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Claremont Senior Center, and AARP.

She was the widow of Adam J. Novak whom she married on October 11, 1941. He died March 14, 1979.

The surviving family includes one son, Bernard A.J. Novak and his wife, Bernadette, of Keene; three daughters, Virginia A. Cunha and her husband, Aureliano, of Keene, Theresa E. Chabot and her husband, Gary, of Manchester, and Karen M. Kuchinski and her husband, Thaddeus, of Keene; seven grandchildren: Sabina Fecteau, Dawn Myers, Ari Cunha, Angela Cunha, Adam Cunha, Krystyna Kuchinski, and Bernard Cote; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Myers; one brother, Sigmund Panek, of Walpole; two sisters, Geneva Gannon of Northwood, MA and Mary Wright of Bellows Falls, VT and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by six sisters: Helen Les, Sophie Waryas, Stella Beditch, Matilda Narkiewicz, Agnes Bednarczyk, and Adeline Bousquet, and three brothers, Stefan Ponek, Leon Panek, and John Panek.

Friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont on Sunday from 3 to 5  in the afternoon.

The Catholic Daughters are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon at 4 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, March 15,th at 11:30 at St Joseph Church in Claremont, with Rev. Father George Majka, Pastor officiating and Rev. Father Michael Gendron concelebrating.

Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
