Albert G. Brooks “Brooksie”, 82, of Nutting Road, Sunapee, NH died September 1, 2011 peacefully at his home. He was born in Newport, NH on July 27, 1929, the son of Judson and Bertha (Houghton) Brooks. He worked all his life in the logging and construction industries. His hobbies and interests included woodworking, doing home projects, walking on his treadmill and on the Sugar River Trail, gardening, attending horse pulls at country fairs and visiting with his many friends. Brooksie was well known locally for his woodsman skill and was once recognized for it by winning 1st place in a Woodsman competition at a country fair. He was the widower of Gwendolyn (Knowlton) Brooks whom he married on September 4, 1948 and she died April 10, 2011. He devoted the last three years of his life as a caregiver for her in her illness The surviving family includes two daughters, Bonnie Belden and her husband, Steve of Goshen, NH and Donna Brooks of Milton, NH; two sons, Albert Brooks, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Lake Stevens, WA and Randy Brooks and his partner, Sharon Jangel of Claremont, NH; five grandchildren, Mark Belden, Cory Belden, Matthew Belden, Keely Penney and Christopher Brooks; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jasmine, Whitney, Brady, Brooke, Liam, Aiden and Brice; four sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” King and her husband, William, of Largo, FL, Harriet Hathaway of West Springfield, MA, Ethel Czechowicz of Goffstown, NH and Sabra Keery and her husband, Myles, of Feeding Hills, MA; one brother, Richard Brooks and his wife, Joan, of Cape Elizabeth, ME; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Judson Brooks and Lester Brooks and two sisters, Eleanor Pitkin and Sarah Wilson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, September 6, 2011 at 11AM in the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St., Claremont, NH with Pastor Priscilla Hull officiating. Visiting hours will be held from 10 to 11 AM prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Claremont. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NH Rail Trails, PO Box 1856, Concord, NH 03302-1856 (to care for and maintain the Sugar River Trail), the Rangely Lakes Reg. Logging Museum, 221 Straton Road, Hampstead, NH 03841 or to another charity of one’s choice. |
