Betty Gundlach Currier, 79, of Cindy Avenue in Claremont died on Sunday, July 17, 2011 in the peaceful comfort of her home assured by the love of her children and devoted care givers.

Betty was born in Plainfield, NJ on April 30, 1932, the daughter of Otto H. and Marie (Bush) Gundlach. She graduated from Ponce DeLeon High School in Coral Gables, FL, and received her Associates Degree in Art from Colby Junior College (now known as Colby Sawyer College) in 1952. She continued her education at Parsons School of Design in New York City. While in NYC Betty was an understudy to Robert Shaw and performed in Carnegie Hall with the Robert Shaw Chorale. She was a member of the Claremont Choral Society and Area Choir, was an accomplished artist, pianist, knitter and enjoyed creative needlecraft.

Betty and her husband, Chick, co-owned the Women’s shop in Claremont from 1955 to 1960. She later worked at Town & Country Realty, retiring in 1989, but continued with her volunteer work in the community. Throughout her career, she remained a full time devoted mother and wife making family her first priority.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Chick” Ayer Currier in 2009, and one brother, Robert O. Gundlach. The surviving family includes her five children, Jennifer C. Pomykato and her husband, John, of Hampstead, NH, Scott A. Currier and his wife, Laura, of Paradise Valley, AZ, Ross A. Currier and his fiancé, Joanne Wittren of North Sandwich, NH, Matthew B. Currier and his wife, Elizabeth, of Hollis, NH and Lynn C. Wenger and her husband, David, of Sunapee, NH; 10 grand-children and one brother, Will Gundlach, of Concord, NH.

Betty was a tireless and cheerful giver of herself to everyone around her. Although no longer with us, she will be fondly remembered for all the ways she touched and changed lives. 

There will be no calling hours.  A Christian service will be celebrated at Trinity Episcopal Church, Broad Street, Claremont, on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 am.
