Christie J. Bowen, 44, of Strawberry Hill, Windsor, VT, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after a courageous battle with breast cancer for several years. She was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 2, 1967 the daughter of Samuel Keith Edgar and Mary J. (Gulbrandson) Edgar. She had attended Lebanon High School, than later graduated from the New England School of Hair Design for her passion in cosmetology. After her many years of foster care, she was inspired to work for the Division of Family Services in White River JCT, VT where she retired. She was an avid advocate for breast cancer awareness and participated in the Prouty yearly on TEAM CHRISTIE. Christie loved her family a tremendous amount. She was a devoted mother and wife and was truly the caretaker of everyone around her. The surviving family includes her husband Darrell W. Bowen of Windsor, VT whom she married on July 4, 1990; her mother, Mary Edgar of Goshen, NH; one daughter, Heather Thurber and her husband, Burton of Weathersfield, VT; two sons, Thomas Bowen and Colby Bowen of Windsor, VT; three sisters, Angie Harper and her husband, Stanley of Amsterdam, MO, Cathie Smith and her husband, Larry of White River JCT, VT, Lisa Drewing and her husband, Mike of Unity, NH, numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and many great friends. She was predeceased by her father Samuel Keith Edgar who died on July 3, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1st at 3:00 PM at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH with Rev. Richard Wierwille of the West Lebanon Congregational Church, officiating. Visiting hours will be held on from 1 to 3 prior to the funeral service.
